Physician Donor Study

The role of physicians in healthcare philanthropy is complex yet worth the investment.  Engaging physicians in philanthropy–as donors and as a partnership in your philanthropy efforts–can be difficult, yet our analysis indicates this involvement has the potential to be highly rewarding.

Of 1,700 Physicians Surveyed, Almost Seventy-five Percent Report They Give or Plan to Give

  • About 55 percent indicate they “financially support and plan to continue their support “
  • Another 15 percent report they “have not given but plan to in the future.”

Five percent report they “currently give and plan to increase”

Yet Physicians Feel Less Connected Than Other Donors

  • Almost seven percent fewer physicians report feeling strongly “connected” as a donor
  • Of non-physician donors, 41 percent said they felt strongly “connected,” well above the 35 percent for physicians

Let’s Find Out How to Better Connect Physicians to Your Philanthropic Efforts

It’s our experience that asking physicians about their philanthropic values and experiences and about what matters the most to them about the hospital and its role in the community will engage them on a level likely to “connect” with them and also identify their top priorities and preferences.  And if followed up appropriately, this process will improve development communication to better align nurturing messages, appeals, and stewardship communication for each stakeholder group.
